VLF received the following from Madison House:
Dear members of Virginia Law Families,
Would it be hard for you to imagine not having the means to cook a holiday meal for your family or give presents during the holidays? That is a reality for hundreds of area residents. These families struggle to make ends meet and do not have the extra funds for holiday luxuries.
However, thanks to the generosity of the local community, more than 80 families are able to have a happy holiday season through the Holiday Sharing program at Madison House.
The Holiday Sharing program consists entirely of dedicated University of Virginia student volunteers working through Madison House. The sponsored families qualify for assistance and are referred to our program by the Salvation Army. A sponsor then purchases presents and food items for the families. The items are dropped off at Madison House and sorted by volunteers. Volunteers also coordinate the highlight of the program, Distribution Day, when families pick up their donated holiday packages.
On behalf of Holiday Sharing, I would like to extend the opportunity for your organization to participate in our program by sponsoring a family for the holidays. When a family is sponsored, they are provided the groceries needed to prepare three meals and holiday gifts totaling $30 per family member. Sponsors choose the family size, which ranges from two to six members. A list of groceries is provided as well as family member information to aid in gift purchasing.
Sponsoring a Holiday Sharing family is a great opportunity to give back to the Charlottesville community, as well as provide a bonding experience for members of your organization. There are many families in need and your group’s support would be wonderful.
If you would like more information or to sign up for a sponsorship, please visit our website at www.madisonhouse.org/holidaysharing, or you can send an email to holidaysharing@madisonhouse.org. Additionally, you may call us at Madison House at 977-7051, between 9AM and 5PM, Monday through Friday.
Happy Holidays in advance,
